Seamless Mobility: Next Step
Looks like seamless mobility is one step closer to becoming a reality. Motorola launched a WiFi mobile phone capable of switching (seamlessly) from cellular to WiFi network. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. unveiled its t709 phone capable of seamlessly accessing Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Nokia also has a model in the works.
It raises questions about pricing. It raises questions about competitive challenges in the network era: who will control the interconnections amongst the complex convergence underway. Looks like T-Mobile may leverage its over 7000 hotspots (like Starbucks). Plus, there is city wide WiFi in places like San Francisco supported by ads.
Makes life interesting.
